As a leader, it's important to make sure that your team is happy and satisfied. Nobody wants to be in an environment where they're feeling undervalued or unappreciated. Luckily, there are some things you can do to keep your team motivated!
Here are five things that will make everyone on your team feel appreciated:
1) Ensure Learning & Development opportunities for all staff
Learning new skills helps employees grow as individuals and strengthens the company culture by encouraging collaboration among departments. A person will always be grateful for the opportunity to grow and experience new things.
2) Promote Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence is defined as "the capacity to monitor one's own and others' feelings and emotions, to differentiate among them, and to use this information effectively." This means that leaders are advised to take time to address the emotional needs of their employees and be open about how they are feeling as well.
3) Build Meaningful Relationships
It's really important that managers take a genuine interest in connecting with their team members on a personal level - this can strengthen bonds between colleagues and increase engagement. The best way to do this is by asking questions like "How was your weekend?" or "What did you think of [insert movie/book/show]? "What's on your mind today?"
4) Recognition
In addition, it's key for supervisors to offer praise where possible! To make sure everyone feels noticed give out compliments when deserved, look for opportunities for recognition (i.e., public acknowledgement) and provide incentives so people feel valued at work too.
5) Be Present
Lastly and most importantly, it's crucial that managers make an effort to be present. In order for employees to feel supported they need to know their supervisor cares about them at the moment. The best way to improve team morale is by listening attentively, ensuring everyone feels valued at work and cracking a joke every now and then! Enjoy your time with your team. Ask yourself where are you spending the most amount of time? is it with them or someone else?
